N2 - The presence of microplastics in water bodies has caused that some countries adopted measures that regulate their use and production. For this reason, this research aimed to compare the different existing regulations on microplastics in Peru and European countries, in the period of 2005-2020. Based on the analysis of the UN (2018) document "Legal Limits on Single-Use Plastics and Microplastics: A Global Review of National Laws and Regulations", the regulations of Peru and those of the European countries: United Kingdom, France, Italy and Sweden were identified. A comparison was made, pointing out their weaknesses and strengths, finding that most of these prohibit the distribution of products that contain microplastics, however, these do not apply to all sectors. Furthermore, the effects that microplastics cause on health were detailed, the digestive system being the most affected, and a proposal for a law applicable to the national reality was made based on foreign regulations. To conclude, European countries have exclusive regulations for microplastics, while in Peru there are no such laws, so it is necessary to implement legal measures that regulate this pollutant.
