Abstract

The main objective of this research is to describe the audiovisual language of the film ‘Requiem for a Dream’. It was carried out using a qualitative approach, which required a meticulous and analytical description of 20 selected sequences from the film. These sequences portray the consequences of drug abuse, as well as seek to document in detail the sensations, reactions and gestures of the protagonists. All of this is conveyed to the audience through a composition, where shots, movements, angles, ambient sound, music and sound effects are used to emphasize the story. The content analysis technique was used to record the results. Among the main findings, it is highlighted that the sequences portray the negative impact of drug use on the human body and how they affect the psychological health of young people, their family ties and expose them to the indifference of society, through audiovisual language.
