N2 - The purpose of this research is to determine the quality management tools in reducing high costs for the improvement of preventive maintenance in a mechanical workshop in Trujillo Perú. We begin our research with the diagnosis of the cars in the workshop using quality tools. Our research concludes with the implementation of improvement proposals and decisions using quality management tools. Four causes were identified through the maintenance process generating as a result high cost. Lack of employee training, lack of maintenance, lack of spare parts and insufficient advice on equipment data. After monetizing each root cause and following the recommendations of the Quality Function Deployment (QFD), analysis mode failure effects (AMFE),6 Sigma methodology (DMAIC) (six Sigma). By those quality management tools we managed to reduce loses due to high costs to a value of s/115,502.70 soles. Finally, having applied the quality management tools to reduce failures, we made a Profit of s/13,697.30 soles.
