N2 - Disasters are unpredictable events that worsen adequate social functioning. According to the perspective that is assumed, these can be of natural origin, anthropic or a formation of forces between both elements, being a process of breakdown, where material and immaterial losses are produced, leading to a generalized crisis that affects social structures. from its foundations and, on many occasions, is lasting over time. By virtue of the foregoing, the article analyzes the theoretical-conceptual guidelines of disasters, in interaction with the postulates of disaster risk management, understood as a series of strategies that allow facing vulnerabilities in the face of natural phenomena. It implies international attention, support for the community, as well as moving towards the construction of a management model designed for sustainability. Managing for sustainable development means dealing with environmental and human problems, proposing equity and social justice, consistent ideas, an inclusive and interdisciplinary model, with future prospects.
