Abstract
Background: It is important to understand the food insecurity situation faced by families who benefit from community kitchens, since belonging to this program helps to mitigate the food problems arising from the ravages of the health, political, economic and social crisis that we have experienced as a country in recent years. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional and exploratory study with a sample of 77 households, from whom information on socioeconomic and demographic factors was collected. To measure food insecurity, the format of the Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale (ELCSA) was used. Results: It was found that the characteristics of the head of the household (age, sex, educational level, occupation) and the characteristics of the household (housing tenure, water supply method, and overcrowding index) are not related to the level of food insecurity; Only a statistically significant association was found with the variables of monetary poverty (p=0.007) and dependency index in relation to food insecurity (p=0.014). The analysis of the generalized linear model with a binomial family denies the statistical association of the factors associated with food insecurity (p>0.05). Conclusions: It was not possible to generate a predictive model on the factors associated with food insecurity in this population; only the factors related to the household economy have a significant association with food insecurity.
