Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present the state of the art on the impact of fast fashion on the environment. It addresses information from the literature on the subject from the perspective of various authors. Fast fashion is interpreted as a business model in the fashion industry characterized by the mass production of garments at low cost. The methodology is the systematic review of research under the PRISMA method, selecting a total of 25 studies, published in the period between the years 2013-2023, also the search and analysis of scientific articles were performed in through databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, Springer Open, Scielo and Digital Repositories. The discussion shows different positions about the impact on the subject. It is identified how fast fashion exerts a considerable impact on the environment, mainly due to the mass production of garments driven by changing consumer trends, the use of unsustainable materials and the generation of waste. The importance of adopting environmental ethics in the textile industry is also addressed. It concludes that fast fashion directly affects the environment and how the need arises to promote more sustainable practices based on the circular economy in the fashion textile sector, as well as to encourage responsible consumption among consumers to contribute to a more sustainable future for the environment.
