N2 - The main problem affecting the world was the contamination of water bodies, which had a negative impact on public welfare and the environment. This was further increased by the productive activity of the farms, which had final effluents with a high organic load, making them fixed sources of contamination, because they had an insufficient system for treating their liquid, solid and gaseous wastes. In addition, due to the lack of information on the functioning, operation and maintenance, only some cities had insufficient wastewater treatment. The “La Colonial” meatpacking plant did not properly treat its wastewater, which went into the sewage system and, finally, into bodies of water, affecting the marine-coastal zone. The main objective of the research was to determine the effectiveness in the removal of turbidity and organic matter of the nopal (Opuntia ficus-indica) coagulant through the performance of jar test trials where data on the study parameters were collected. The results showed the removal of BOD5 (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) in 75.32%, TSS (Total Suspended Solids) 97.59% and turbidity 97.68%. In the case of TSS (Total Suspended Solids) (mg/L) and pH, which were maintained, were within the regulations of Supreme Decree No. 010-2019-VIVIENDA - Maximum Allowable Values (MAV) for discharges to the sanitary sewer system. Finally, it was concluded that the most effective dose was 40 mg/L because it had managed to greatly reduce the various parameters in spite of the factors of time and agitation, which played a great role.
