Abstract

This study analyzed the female presence in fiction series in Peruvian free-to-air and nationally produced television. Under the socio-critical paradigm, we analyzed the content and discourse of 67 episodes of the 2023 season of the only two series on the air. The instrument applied was based on the precepts of the Bechdel Test, with a category of vulnerabilities. It was obtained that in 95.5% there are female characters, in 40.3% the dialogues deal with non-personal issues of a sentimental nature, 32.8% of the scenes do not center their dialogues around a man and in 47.7%, women have a visible condition of vulnerability, thus identifying dichotomous categories of tension: quantitative presence/qualitative participation, male dependence/postmodern independence, traditional stereotypy/new roles, congeneric socialization/impenetrable isolation and vulnerability of form/ risks of substance. It is concluded that new dynamics should be explored for female characters in audiovisual fiction that match reality, are able to question and rebel against it, and act as proactive role models.
