N2 - In Peru, there is a lack of evidence related to internet gaming disorder (IGD) and the consequences it has on university students. This disorder involves distress caused by persistent use of the internet to play video games which can lead to depression, anxiety, or stress. IGD scores were evaluated in 162 university students and then correlative, exploratory, and predictive analysis was made with the results. The majority of the participants considered that they never felt interested or had played video games. In addition, gender and cycle were predictive factors of IGD, whereas academic performance did not. This disorder is a recently interesting topic among works related to university students, and the present study reported new knowledge in an unexplored context. It is important to replicate these studies in different contexts or larger samples to find out the influence of IGD on academic performance.
