Thermal Decomposition of Seashell Powder

Abstract

In recent decades, the growth of the aquaculture industry has produced an increase in the production of seashells whose residual shells currently generate an environmental problem. The objective of this research was to review the fundamentals of the thermal decomposition of seashell powder. The first part defines what they are, how they were formed, and identifies which are the most produced. Then, thermal decomposition, microstructure, and the effect of particle size on phase transformations were analyzed. Finally, the main applications of both calcined powder and no n-calcined powder were reviewed.
