Arduino-Based Prototype for Measuring Chlorinated Solution Volumes in Water Treatment Systems

Resumen

Poor drinking water quality in rural areas is still a common issue in Latin American countries, mainly because of the flaws in drinking water systems. For example, in Peru, drinking water chlorination systems exhibit a large number of deficiencies from the dosing process to the monitoring of chlorine volumes in storage tanks. In fact, as the water tanks are often far from communities, chlorine solution levels are hardly ever properly monitored. Therefore, the system proposed in this paper will allow users to monitor the real-time chlorinated solution volume levels in drinking water systems, thus, rendering their operations effective. The design of the prototype relies on an intelligent two-way system comprising of a sender and a receiver. Both parts are Arduino-based and communicate with each other via a long-range wireless transmission protocol. In addition, the system features low energy consumption and uses cloud connectivity for storing chlorination process information.
