Resumen

Research on microbial fuel cells (MFCs) has unveiled key findings in antibiotic degradation and electricity generation. This bibliometric analysis indicates that optimized electrodes, particularly those based on carbon nanomaterials and metal oxides, have significantly enhanced electron transfer efficiency, boosting the bioelectrochemical performance of MFC systems. Additionally, the use of genetically modified microorganisms has enabled a more effective conversion of contaminants into electrical energy. Aquatic environments, such as wetlands and hospital wastewater, have been identified as optimal conditions for MFC operation, achieving antibiotic removal rates exceeding 90% while maintaining competitive power densities. The scientific collaboration network reveals strong connections among researchers in Asia and Europe, with prominent publications in RSC Advances and Chemical Engineering Journal. However, industrial scalability and microbial stability remain critical challenges, necessitating advancements in computational modeling and hybrid approaches to enhance real-world applicability.
