Resumen
Objective. To determine a logistic model that predict the preventative attitudes and practice towards monkeypox (Mpox), of the citizens from northern Peru. Materials and methods. cultural, social and biologic factors were taken into account, and a cross-sectional investigation was carried out. A total of 385 citizens of legal age were surveyed through non-probabilistic snowball sampling, who answered a valid and reliable questionnaire with prior informed consent. To determine the relationship between the variables, Tau-b of Kendall and V of Cramer were used as statistical tests. Binary and ordinal logistic regression were applied to determine the predictor variables. Results: The results showed that 67.9% of the citizens have the adequate attitude towards prevention, 49.8% have a high level of knowledge and 94.8% have adequate preventive practices. 51% had knowledge of the existence of a vaccine and 89.8% indicated that they would receive it if it were available. It was also found that education level and marital status were associated with attitude, sex was associated with practices, and knowledge was significantly associated with both variables. Conclusions. In conclusion, the results indicated that, among the analyzed variables, the level of knowledge has the greatest influence on the attitudes and practices of citizens, highlighting that the low and medium levels determine an inadequate attitude and practice regarding the Mpox’s prevention.
