Resumen

The objective of this investigation is to determine to what extent the application of the preventive maintenance management proposal influences the inherent availability of the machine in the packaging and sealing area of the canned tuna production line. The implementation of the preventive maintenance management proposal was carried out through field observation and documentary recording of the historical data of failures of the most critical machine, which was identified as the can seamer. Through the application of the proposal, it was possible to increase the inherent availability and its measurement indicators. The result confirms the importance of the preventive maintenance function in the role of maintaining and improving the availability of its assets. The research presented, as its main contribution, an extensive analysis of the application of preventive maintenance to increase the inherent availability of the machine in a tuna canning company.
