Resumen

This study addresses inefficiencies in supply chain management that contribute to high production costs in a poultry company in Trujillo. Aiming to develop a proposal to reduce operating costs, the research posed the following question: What quality management tools can be implemented to achieve cost reduction? The hypothesis suggests that implementing improvement strategies in operational processes can lead to significant cost reductions. The study identified the improvement proposal as the independent variable and production cost reduction as the dependent variable. Using a propositional and diagnostic design rooted in formative and exact sciences, the research identified the main root causes of inefficiencies through the Ishikawa Diagram, focusing on biosecurity, nutritional quality, feed scheduling, and temperature and humidity control. These issues were thoroughly analyzed and quantified in economic terms. The Pareto Diagram was employed to prioritize the most critical causes. To align customer needs with technical requirements, the House of Quality (QFD) was utilized, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) identified potential failures, their causes, and corrective actions. By applying the Six Sigma DMAIC model, targeted improvements were made to the identified root causes, resulting in increased Z and Cpk values, reflecting enhanced process performance. The economic analysis confirmed the proposal's viability, with a Net Present Value (NPV) of S/. 617,263.62, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 81.45% (well above the 20% cost of capital), and a Payback Period (PRI) of 2.7 years. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of quality management tools in driving significant operational and economic improvements, offering a sustainable and competitive solution for the company.
