Resumen
Introduction: Infertility is a public health problem. Despite the availability of highly complex assisted reproduction techniques, access to them remains limited for some populations. Objective: To analyze the outcomes of highly complex assisted reproduction techniques at a specialized public maternal-perinatal institute in Peru, 2014-2018. Method: An observational, descriptive, and retrospective study was conducted in 146 patients registered in the reproductive medicine service’s medical records. Results: The most commonly used technique was in vitro fertilization (IVF) (65.6%), related to the tubal factor (p = 0.010). Regarding intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), the most frequently associated factor was semen abnormality (p = 0.010). On the other hand, the highest percentage of clinical pregnancies was observed with the mixed technique (IVF + ICSI) (57.1%). Meanwhile, the highest percentage of births was observed with the ICSI technique (45.5%). Conclusions: The most commonly used technique was IVF, which was associated with female-related infertility (tubal factor). The ICSI technique was associated with male-related infertility (semen abnormalities). Although both ICSI and the mixed technique (IVF + ICSI) were the least commonly used, a higher percentage of clinical pregnancies and births were achieved with these techniques.
